Suggestions and highlighting
Command history, inline suggestions and command-line highlighting.
Suggestions from your history
Termlo remembers the commands you run. When you type the beginning of a command you already ran, the rest appears in grey after the cursor:
- → or End accepts the whole suggestion;
- Ctrl+→ (⌥→ on macOS) accepts one word;
- keep typing to ignore it.
The suggestion is the most used command, then the most recent. History is kept per local profile and per SSH host.
Nothing is shown in full-screen programs (vim, htop, less).
Command highlighting
Turn on Settings › Terminal › Colorer la ligne de commande (highlight the command line): while you type, the program
is green (red if it cannot be found in the PATH, for local shells), options blue, strings yellow, operators (|,
&&, >) magenta. Colors follow your theme and stay visible after the command runs.
Termlo does not know your shell’s aliases and functions: they may appear in red.
How Termlo detects your commands
- Local zsh, bash, fish and PowerShell: Termlo loads a small integration script at startup, without changing
your files (
.zshrc,.bashrc, PowerShell profile). To do without it, uncheck Intégration shell in the profile. - SSH and other shells: Termlo compares what you type with what is displayed. As soon as the screen no longer
matches (password without echo,
Ctrl+Rsearch), nothing is recorded.
If you already use zsh-autosuggestions, zsh-syntax-highlighting, fish or PSReadLine predictions, Termlo detects it and does not add its own suggestions or colors.
Privacy
History stays on your machine. These are never recorded:
- commands starting with a space (like
HISTCONTROL=ignorespace); - commands that look like secrets:
PASSWORD=…,--token …,mysql -p…,sshpass,https://user:password@…,curl -u user:…,Authorization:headers.
Settings › Terminal › Effacer l’historique (clear history) deletes everything.
